The Good Parts

Skipping the 9-5 to get straight to the good parts sounds like the dream—until you begin to realize all you’re missing out on.

The Logline

In the near future, renting out your consciousness is a steady, lucrative 9-5. But when one long-time renter sees photos of her body out on amazing adventures, she retraces her steps to rediscover all the life she could have been living.

The Story at a Glance

Kayla always said work was for suckers. So she, to her friends’ chagrin, signed up for Synergyn, a service that connects a user’s consciousness to a host’s body to use for a day. For Kayla, life is waking up, tuning out at 9, and tuning back in at 5. But when she sees her own picture on a restaurant wall, she and her reluctant friend Hermes retrace her body’s comings and goings—rediscovering the biggest and smallest beauties of existence as they go.

The Characters

Kayla never met a shortcut she wouldn’t take. Her older sister Shannon and her pregnant power lawyer wife Rebecca just can’t understand it, and her oldest, bestest friend Hermes often bears the brunt of it. But seeing how others have valued her life—and missing some crucial moments in the process—brings Kayla closer to her friends, her family, and herself.

The Bottom Line

Living life can be a daunting prospect—but so, too, is missing out on it. Day jobs, passions, fears, joys; the good and the bad shape our existence equally. Rising every day to face that uncertainty is a brave choice—and ultimately the most rewarding one.
